Another Bay movie in the works. (The director, by the way, says that the fourth film will include some redesign of the robots and an entirely new cast. He also said it will be his last and set the franchise up “for the next guy.”)
You can read the full article on LATimes but its mainly about the ride the only mention of the new film is the quote above.
This seems like the perfect time to start speculating on the next movie.
One of my biggest problems with the movies has been the character designs, however I feel that if this is going to be the final movie with this creative team perhaps it would be better to leave things as they are unless these proposed redesigns are little more than those that occurred between the first three movies.
As for the new human cast I have little attachment to any of them and would welcome a Transformers movie that didn’t feature any humans at all. I’m sure that will not be the case and that the introduction of a new cast will take the spotlight away from the real stars of this franchise.
I would like this to be the final chapter of Bays saga however I fear that if this new movie is a financial success there will be a drive to continue this story rather than starting a new one.
I don’t want anyone to think I’m just hating on Michael Bay and while I’m yet to enjoy any of his movies I cannot wait to see his take on Pain and Gain and would much rather see him take on this project rather than returning to Transformers.
Excuse me while a ramble off topic for a while now but I saw The Avengers last night and was blown away by this comic book masterpiece. Perhaps my unfamiliarity with the source material allowed me to enjoy the movie on face value but that film surpassed any expectations I had and it is a benchmark that I will have to hold any action movie up to. It was exactly what I wanted Transformers to be, it embraced the absurdity of the super hero genre and the shameless self-confidence displayed in the script was impeccably portrayed by the cast all of which were incredible.
Perhaps Transformers 4 can live up to the standard set by Joss Whedon on The Avengers and perhaps some inspiration can be taken from the upcoming Fall of Cybertron which wears the more ridiculous aspects of the franchise on its sleeve ( Space T-rex anyone ? ) , whatever happens Im glad that there will be more Transformers movies and I will continue to support this brand no matter who is writing or directing the movies I just hope that Transformers can be the genre defining movie that The Avengers now is.
Hey! I was wondering if you read the IDW comics. I'm considering reading the series over my summer vacation, but I'd like some insight before I buy the TPBs. Thanks!
Hey sorry it took so long to reply, I have read everything IDW has published and although the back catalog has its moments its hard to recommend where to jump on for new readers but Im going to try.
The -ation series are great but after a good build up it doesn’t really get the payoff it deserved.
The Spotlights are good as on the whole they are self contained stories, just pick up the one about your favorite characters and you should enjoy them.
All Hail Megatron is OK and at least you can read the whole story.
The Ongoing by Mike Costa is the weakest series for me and I confess I still havent read the last few issues.
I always seem to say this but the best books from IDW are the two current ongoing series More Than Meets the Eye and Robots in Disguise , if your already reading those and you like them I can recommend going back and reading Last Stand of the Wreckers by the same creative team.
Also the digital only Autocracy series is wrapping up now im waiting for the last issue before I finish treading it but that was shaping up to be a good story.
There really have been a lot of good books by IDW and you wont regret picking up any of them if you or anyone has any specific questions dont be afraid to ask and I will try and reply quicker :)
